Nothing has announced its latest over-ear headphones, the Headphone (a), offering an affordable alternative to its original Headphone 1 model. The new headphones stand out for their extended battery life, bold color options, and enhanced user controls, aiming to provide a comfortable listening experience for long durations.

Design and Color Options

The Headphone (a) headphones maintain the design language of the original Headphone 1, but introduce more vibrant color choices. Prospective buyers can select from four colors: yellow, pink, white, and black, expanding the aesthetic appeal beyond the previous monochrome palette.

Lightweight at 310 grams, these headphones feature breathable memory foam cushions designed to provide a snug, tailored fit. The intention is to enhance comfort for all-day wear, catering to a diverse range of users who seek both style and ergonomic design.

Industry-Leading Battery Performance

One of the most remarkable features of the Headphone (a) is its battery life. Nothing touts an impressive 135 hours of playback on a single charge, which exceeds many competitors in its price range. To put this in context, Sony’s well-regarded WH-CH520 headphones only offer about 50 hours of battery life.

Additionally, the headphones support rapid charging, promising five hours of use after just five minutes plugged into a power source. This feature targets users who need quick power boosts during busy schedules.

Enhanced User Controls

The new model incorporates tactile controls similar to the previous version, including buttons, paddles, and a roller. These controls allow sensitive volume adjustments and easy track skipping without relying on a smartphone. A programmable button on the headphones enables users to switch between streaming and podcast apps directly or perform other functions such as snapping photos or starting video recordings.

This control scheme aims to reduce interruptions by allowing more functions to be managed on the headphones themselves, enhancing usability and convenience.

Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Audio Features

The Headphone (a) offers adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), which dynamically adjusts based on surrounding ambient noise levels. This feature is supported by three microphones positioned to monitor environmental sound for better noise suppression.

In addition to ANC, the headphones provide spatial audio capabilities to enrich the listening experience. They also integrate with the Nothing X app, offering an equalizer and other customizable audio settings, allowing users to tailor sound output to their preferences.

Availability and Pricing

Preorders for the Headphone (a) are currently open, with shipments scheduled to start on March 13 for most colors. The yellow variant is expected to ship later in April. These headphones are priced at $200, which is significantly more affordable compared to the $300 price tag of the Headphone 1.

While sound quality reviews are still pending, these new headphones position themselves as an attractive budget-friendly option with exceptional battery life and thoughtful features for everyday use.
