Rode has introduced the Rodecaster Video Core, a new all-in-one livestreaming studio aimed at budget-conscious creators looking to expand from audio-only setups into HD video production. Positioned below its more advanced models, this streamlined device offers flexible connectivity and app-based control to simplify multi-source streaming.
Affordable, Simplified Livestreaming Setup
The Rodecaster Video Core targets creators who are new to video production or already have professional audio gear but want to add video streaming capabilities affordably. Unlike Rode’s flagship Video and mid-range Video S consoles, the Video Core removes hardware controls entirely, operating exclusively through the Rodecaster app. This app-driven approach aims to reduce complexity and cost while maintaining robust functionality.
This streamlined design could appeal to smaller content creators, podcasters, and livestreamers who want a professional studio environment without investing in pricier equipment.
Comprehensive Connectivity Options
The device offers versatile connectivity including three HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, four USB-C ports, two 3.5mm jacks, and two Neutrik combo ports. Users can connect up to four video sources simultaneously, including compatible video devices via USB-C and network cameras through Ethernet.
Additionally, the Rode Capture app allows wireless streaming from iOS devices, expanding the flexibility of mobile content integration. This range of inputs supports varied livestream setups from multi-camera interviews to mobile device feeds.
Seamless Integration With Existing Audio Equipment
For creators already using Rode’s professional audio consoles such as the Rodecaster Pro 2 or Duo, the new Rodecaster Sync app enables integration with the Video Core. This sync feature allows users to control audio and video from one desk, enhancing the livestreaming workflow by synchronizing shortcuts and reducing the need for manual adjustments mid-stream.
This integration is likely to streamline production for hybrid audio-video content creators, making the overall experience more cohesive and efficient.
Advanced Streaming and Recording Features
The Rodecaster Video Core supports direct streaming to platforms including YouTube and Twitch, as well as recording to external drives. A recent firmware update enables outputting Edit Decision List (EDL) files compatible with DaVinci Resolve for post-production editing.
Moreover, users can import media in non-traditional aspect ratios such as square social media videos, which the system automatically scales and optimizes, accommodating diverse content formats seamlessly.
Availability and Pricing
The Rodecaster Video Core is available for pre-order at $599. Rode has not yet announced the shipping timeline for the new device. This launch represents a continuation of Rode’s strategy to offer tiered products that meet a range of creator needs and budgets.
As livestreaming continues to grow in popularity, the introduction of accessible, high-quality production consoles like the Video Core is likely to encourage more content creators to expand into video streaming.
